Elix Healing Cycle Balance Review

Not worth the time doing the surveys

Underdosed, Subscription Only, Not Good.

Elix Healing is a New York City-based wellness brand that specializes in customized herbal tinctures designed to alleviate uterine cramps and boost menstrual health. Their products claim to target specific hormones and lipids associated with cramping and other discomforts related to menstruation. And some of the ingredients have definitely had studies which show they can have some benefit however, the question when it comes to elix cycle balance is whether or not it actually has enough of said ingredients to help hormonal imbalance or reduce any of issues caused by your menstrual cycle.

The first problem that we have is that it's a tincture, and we're talking about a 2ml dose per day, now as you'd expect 1ml of water holds less than 1 gram of active ingredients, realistically it's more like 0.5grams. Now, that means that we're realistically working with about 1 gram (the equivalent to capsule in other supplement types) worth of ingredients.

And as we'll come onto, whilst several of the ingredients in Elix can help with menstrual health, a lot of them require a gram or more in terms of dosage. Now, there is currently only one PMS supplement on the market that we know of that actually doses all of it's ingredients in line with the clinical research, and that's Kittie, which you can read more about in our breakdown of the best PMS supplements. But, that requires 3 capsules a day, which is 6 times the ingredients you get from Elix Cycle Balance. It also costs less.

Now, we also have one other issue with Elix Healing as a whole, the first is being that they force you onto subscription, which is not great, especially when several elix healing reviews suggest it's not overly easy to get off the subscription.

Then there's the survey that they force you to take before you can purchase the product, now, after doing this and of course reporting no, period pain, PMS or PMDD symptoms what so ever, I was offered Elix Cycle Balance, which does of course show a poor business practice.

Now, we'll get onto the actual ingredient breakdown, but in short we'd recommend you get something else.

Elix Healing’s Cycle Balance Customer Reviews

Elix Healing’s Cycle Balance has mostly positive reviews which are primarily found on the company's own website, this can be a little disappointing as it can be a biased reflection of the product. Looking for independent reviews, these are harder to locate across the web.

That said we could find some people complaining on Reddit and TikTok that they couldn't actually cancel their subscriptions easily.

Elix Healing’s Cycle Balance Blend Ingredients and Usage:

Each tincture bottle contains 60ml of product, which, according to the manufacturer's recommendations, should last about one month, amounting to 2ml per day. However, if one were to follow the recommended daily dosage, it would be mathematically improbable to incorporate all the ingredients into a 2ml blend, suggesting that each ingredient is potentially underdosed.

Corydalis,  (underdosed)

Corydalis is often used for pain relief and relaxation which may possibly help with mood swings. It contains tetrahydropalmatine (THP), which may block dopamine receptors in the brain, leading to sedation. Currently only animal studies suggest it can reduce pain and depression, which may help with mood swings.

Recommended Daily Dosage: There is no standard dose, but as a dietary supplement, you can take approximately 1000 mg (scant 1/2 tsp) of pure corydalis extract powder daily

Gardenia,  (potentially underdosed)

Gardenia has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory properties and may help with digestion, urinary tract infections, and menstrual irregularities. It’s also known for fostering emotional balance which may help during PMS.

Recommended Daily Dosage: There is no specific recommended dose, but gardenia is often used in combination with other herbs.

ChasteBerry,  (potentially underdosed)

Chasteberry, is popular for PMS relief. It positively affects hormonal health by raising progesterone levels. Studies show it reduces PMS symptoms and may help with menopausal symptoms and hormonally induced acne.

Recommended Daily Dosage: PMS: 200 mg daily before breakfast.

Cyperus Rotundus,  (potentially underdosed)

Cyperus rotundus, also known as nutgrass or purple nutsedge, offers several health benefits, including potential relief from premenstrual syndrome (PMS).

Research suggests that Cyperus rotundus may help regulate menstrual cycles and alleviate PMS symptoms in women. However, more studies are needed to confirm these effects.

Cyperus rotundus has been traditionally used to address signs like menstrual irregularities, overdue periods, abdominal pain during menstruation, and emotional imbalances in women. It may also help with painful menstruation and mood changes associated with PMS

Ginger.  (potentially underdosed)

Ginger has anti-inflammatory properties that can alleviate menstrual cramps. An enzyme called zingibain in ginger inhibits the production of prostaglandins, the chemicals responsible for uterine contractions during menstruation. During the luteal phase, women often experience headaches. Ginger consumption has been linked to significant relief from headaches. It can also help with nausea and an upset stomach during PMS. If you deal with heavy menstrual flow, ginger may be beneficial. Regular consumption of ginger over three months has been associated with reduced bleeding

Magnesium: (underdosed)

Magnesium plays a crucial role in various bodily functions, including energy metabolism, protein synthesis, and proper brain function.

Research suggests that magnesium supplementation can help alleviate PMS symptoms, such as anxiety, depression, and bloating.

Magnesium," is one of those ingredients that come in different forms and have totally different benefits, and some not so pleasant side effects, Elix Healing’s Cycle Balance Blend does not distinguish which form of magnesium is used- if it is magnesium oxide, (the least expensive type), known for its low absorption rate and potential side effects, this form is not ideal for addressing cramps and might cause gastrointestinal issues due to its laxative effect. In contrast, magnesium chloride is a well-absorbed magnesium salt with various applications, making it an excellent general-purpose supplement.

Recommended Daily Dosage: For better sleep and PMS relief: 250–300 mg daily combined with vitamin B6 for general PMS symptoms. Consider magnesium citrate or glycinate for optimal absorption.

300–500 mg of magnesium citrate or glycinate three times a day during the luteal phase for significant PMS or PMDD symptoms.

Skullcap / Huang Qin (potentially underdosed)

Is a traditional Chinese drug used as an anti-inflammatory and for management of dysmenorrhea.

The effect on the uterus has not yet been examined. Whist it has been investigated the relaxant effects of wogonin on contractile activity of isolated uterine strips of rats. More human research is required.

Elix Healing Reviews Conclusion

Elix Healing's Cycle Balance pretends to offer a tailored product, but really they just offer a standard tincture from one of a couple of choices.
The fact is that it simply can't be well enough dosed, and considering it's a subscription only product, this isn't good.

While it would be ideal to believe that all PMS supplements meet the same standards, this is not always the case. Despite the polished marketing, the presence of numerous unknown factors makes this product difficult to endorse. And the fact is that there are completitors that are designed to help with menstrual symptoms that have transparent formulas.

And as a rule of thumb we don't recommend products that hide obvious under dosing.

Generally we recommend Kittie, but if you want to check out other products we have a breakdown of the best supplements for menstrual health below.
