There are a few core issues with Hepagard and most of it comes down to dosing, HepaGard can have some benefits for liver health. Most likely from the Milk Thistle Extract. Due to it using a proprietary blend we can't even be 100% sure there's enough of that ingredient, but it is the only one that is mathematically possible.
There are much better liver supplements available that do actually dose all of the ingredients correctly. Not just one. Or alternatively you could by a standard milk thistle supplement for much less. Generally we recommend LeberCure.
The issues.
- Unverified Proprietary Blend: Contains 340 mg of a proprietary blend, making it unclear how much of each ingredient you’re actually getting.
- Low Choline Content: Only 4 mg of choline per capsule, which is far below the recommended daily intake for liver support.
- Unknown Efficacy: NAC is well below the functional dose as is dandelion and artichoke leaf.
- Minimal Transparency: Lack of detailed ingredient breakdown might make it hard for users to gauge potency and effectiveness accurately.
A quick look a the table below and the general dosages we'd expect to see will make it clear our issues with Hepagard.
Ingredient | Common Dosage Range | Role in Liver Health |
---|---|---|
Milk Thistle Extract | 200–400 mg | Contains silymarin, typically you want 100mg of this, and there's probably enough in Hepaguard, but everything else is under the effective range. |
N-Acetyl Cysteine (NAC) | 600–1,200 mg | Serves as a precursor to glutathione, a vital antioxidant for detoxifying the liver. |
Dandelion Root Powder | 500–2,000 mg | Traditionally used to promote liver detoxification and support bile production. |
Artichoke Leaf Powder | 320–640 mg | May enhance bile flow and possess antioxidant properties beneficial to liver function. |
Choline Bitartrate | 500–1,000 mg | Essential nutrient that supports fat metabolism and prevents fat accumulation in the liver. |
