Customers JYM Shred Reviews
Other than on the manufacturer’s website, there aren’t a whole lot of reviews of the JYM Shred Fat burner. We found four on TrustPilot. All of them were positive. The product doesn’t seem to be available on Amazon yet, although other products by the company are and they have lots of positive reviews. On the Shred JYM website, the reviews were much the same: short and positive. The overall score was 4.7 stars. We would prefer to make our analysis of verified customer reviews of Shred JYM Fat Burner from third-party sources, but this wasn’t really possible this time.
JYM Shred Ingredients
Acetyl-L-Carnitine (1.5g) - Often simply referred to as L-carnitine, this ingredient is a natural enzyme that is produced ordinarily in the body. As a supplement, it has been linked to neurological improvements with some experts suggesting it could alleviate symptoms of Alzheimer’s. L-carnitine’s impact on weight loss is less straightforward, however.
Let’s take a moment to explore this because it’s by far the main ingredient in this fat burner, which means the effectiveness of the whole formula rather hinges on this ingredient. L-carnitine is responsible is involved in energy production as it moves fatty acids into the reach of mitochondria which then burn the fats to create usable energy. It seems logical to assume that the more your mitochondria are burning fats the less fat will be stored in the body—and this is exactly the argument that Shred JYM Fat Burner is using to justify the inclusion of L-carnitine.
But while this might make sense theoretically, studies are ambiguous. Some studies reported no difference whatsoever between participants taking L-carnitine and those on a placebo. One study did suggest it helps obese people to lose weight, so all we can say with any certainty is that it might help if you are seriously overweight. More research is needed to confirm the effects of L-carnitine, and while it’s not unreasonable to include it, we’re not convinced it should be the centre-piece of any fat burner just yet.
Green Tea Extract (500mg) - Green tea extract is found in a number of fat burners and for good reason. We are fully behind the inclusion of green tea extract. Multiple studies have demonstrated its effectiveness at increasing fat oxidation and removing fat before it is absorbed by the body. The 500mg dose included in Shred JYM is a decent amount that is endorsed by the science.
Caffeine (200mg) - Caffeine is another common ingredient in fat burners. It comes with a whole host of health benefits as well as promoting weight loss through thermogenesis. The 200mg dose is Shred JYM is not the highest dose found in fat burners but it’s a sufficient amount and is unlikely to cause negative side effects like the jitters.
L-Tyrosine (500mg) - Tyrosine is a precursor to chemicals that can speed up your metabolic rate, but there is no evidence that taking it as a supplement does actually increase metabolic rate. Ordinarily, Tyrosine is found in nootropic supplements as its effect on brain performance is fairly well documented. We feel it is a bit of an odd choice for a fat burner. There are better, proven ingredients that could have been used instead, such as black pepper extract, or vitamin D, or appetite-suppressing glucomannan.
Capsimax Cayenne Pepper Extract (50mg) - This extract is high in a compound called capsaicin, which has been seen to reduce appetite and boost metabolism. It works by increasing oxygen consumption and raising the body temperature to induce thermogenesis. We would like to see the dose being a little higher for the full effects to be felt, around 100mg would be optimum.
Advantra Z (20mg) - This is a patented extract of bitter orange. There is a very small amount of evidence suggesting this supplement can increase heart rate in an unhealthy way and potentially present a health risk. The benefit of Advantra Z is that it contains a compound that might boost your metabolism. Advantra Z became popular after ephedra was banned due to the serious health risks it posed. Research is currently being conducted into the safety of using Advantra Z and we feel it’s too early to comment. That said, there are plenty of other ingredients available that are both safe and effective that Shred JYM Fat Burner could have included instead.
