Focus Factor is a brain-boosting health supplement in pill form that claims it’s been engineered to help enhance the functions of your brain by improving focus, concentration, and memory.
The reality is Focus Factor is probably the best option from the supermarket brands, it still doesn’t hold a candle to the likes of Hunter Focus, but there are a couple of good points here. It has a very comprehensive multivitamin blend, so we can’t knock it there. The issue is with its nootropic blend, which unfortunately is the main point of the supplement.
It’s a proprietary blend which means we can’t be 100% sure if the ingredients in this blend are actually dosed correctly, but we can see it is actually impossible for all of them to be correctly dosed in under 800mg as Focus Factor would want you to believe.
Of the big three ingredients that we typically want to see in the best nootropics supplements Focus Factor also misses out on two, it does contain phosphatidylserine, but misses out on citicoline and resveratrol which are the most well-backed and effective at focus boosting and promoting brain health for the long term respectively.
The price point also means that it’s not much different to Hunter Focus which topped our best list, so unfortunately we can’t recommend Focus Factor. Although of the store brands, it is the best that we’ve seen. Far better than prevagen or neuriva for example. But, it does contain DMAE which is a nightmare for side effects and whilst it is effective it's not something we like to see as it can cause issues for a lot of people.
Customers Focus Factor Reviews
Customer reviews of Focus Factor are relatively difficult to come across, that said, the ones that we did were relatively positive. Which we can’t say is surprising, if you’re not used to brain supplements, then it’s likely going to have a positive effect. Most Americans are deficient in at least one of the ingredients in Focus Factor and this alone would be enough to see improvement for a lot of people. However, for people who are more familiar with nootropics Focus Factor falls flat. Even Focus Factor extra strength reviews were middle of the road compared to what you could expect from better supplements.
Focus Factor Ingredients
Vitamins A, C, D, E, B6, B12, folic acid, biotin, riboflavin, niacin, iodine, magnesium, calcium, iron, zinc, selenium, chromium, copper, manganese and choline are all beneficial vitamins and minerals, deficiencies can cause lowering of focus.
It’s the proprietary blend where things go a little south, the main issue is that it’s a total of 800mg, which means that we can’t be sure if any of the ingredients are in their correct dosages.
DMAE – Said to boost brain help and improve REM sleep, the research is spotty and it has a lot of side effects. It does increase production of ACH which is used for a lot of brain function, there just isn’t much in the way of solid evidence as of yet.
DHA – An Omega 3 fatty acid, DHA is a good inclusion, we all know how useful omega 3 is for the brain, they’re called essential fats for a reason.
L-glutamine – Is an amino acid used in the brain, there isn’t much evidence that supplementing it will do much.
Phosphatidylserine – This is one of the best ingredients for boosting cognitive function, it’s also great for long-term brain health and has been tested as a potential treatment for numerous cognitive and memory issues. It’s been shown to be beneficial for improving function on memory tasks and focus. The effective dosage is only 100mg so we do expect that it’s included in an effective dose.
N-acetyl Tyrosine – Tyrosine is a pretty solid inclusion and has made it into Focus Factor, it’s good for mood and brain function, but we expect it’s under dosed as it needs to be 200mg.
Bilberry fruit – This fruit has antioxidant qualities, it’s fine, but nothing special as ingredients go.
Gamma-aminobutyric acid, also known as GABA this is a pretty good anti anxiety ingredient, but not likely to be anywhere close to it’s effective 300mg.
Grape and grape skin extract are anti-oxidants, but there’s not a whole lot of data to support that they really do anything to boost focus or brain function.
Vinpocetine – has been developed to treat cerebrovascular conditions by improving blood to the brain, this could be a great ingredient, but it’s currently still being studied.
All in all there’s some good ingredients here for anxiety, stress and focus. There’s just a lot of filler with the antioxidants and likely under-dosing.
Focus Factor vs Prevagen
This one is a no-brainer, not only does Prevagen not work, but it's actively dangerous and the FDA has pushed false advertising claims against them. As such, the result of Focus Factor vs Prevagen is a resounding win for Focus Factor. We don't recommend that anyone take Prevagen since there are reports of it stunting growth in children, causing seizures, and even memory loss, and we do understand the irony here.
Focus Factor vs Neuriva
Focus factor also comes out as the winner in this shootout, Neuriva pretty much only gets PS right, so assuming Focus Factor does too, we can’t be sure, but we suspect that they do. Then there is nothing that Neuriva has that Focus Factor doesn’t.
Focus Factor Review Conclusion
What like that Focus Factor has a good balance of essential vitamins and minerals. And it’s got a couple of good ingredients for overall cognitive performance, but, it fails miserably as a mood booster or a memory booster, with a name like Focus Factor you could potentially say that’s reasonable, but at it’s price point you can get something that does all 3, and boosts focus better like Hunter.
We don’t dislike Focus Factor, but there are better products on the market, the formula looks a little dated and the industry has moved on. Unfortunately, store brand memory supplements tend to be slow to update formulas due to having such large amounts of stock located all over the country. This means that they’re rarely the most up-to-date, and this is where Focus Factor falls down. Buy hunter instead.
