LivingWell Super Joint Support Ingredients
Vitamin D3 (950IU) - Being deficient in vitamin D can cause existing joint pains or illnesses to worsen. Since many people are deficient, particularly in the United States, including vitamin D is always a solid choice in a joint supplement. Super Joint Support has also included a decent amount.
Vitamin B12 (250mcg) - While the effects of B vitamins are not fully understood in relation to joints, there is some research to suggest that several B vitamins, including B12, have a positive impact on joint mobility. B12 is thought to play a role in bone metabolism and improve joints in the hand when taken as a supplement. That said, research is somewhat limited at present.
Magnesium (400mg) - The evidence supporting magnesium’s benefits to joint health is currently very limited. In theory, magnesium’s anti-inflammatory properties mean it could well alleviate symptoms caused by joint-related conditions, but right now more research is needed to confirm this [1].
Sodium (10mg) - We’re really not sure why this is here. Sodium is basically salt, which is usually viewed as bad for joints because it causes water retention that leads to swelling that puts pressure on joints. We found no evidence linking sodium supplementation to the alleviation of joint pain or the prevention of joint disintegration. An odd choice of ingredient for a joint supplement.
Potassium (125mg) - Potassium deficiency can cause stiff and achy muscles. This can put extra pressure on your joints as the muscles are pulling their weight, so to speak. Though the benefits are not directly joint-related, this isn’t a bad ingredient to include and could help some people.
Glucosamine sulfate (1000mg) - Glucosamine sulfate is produced naturally in the body to create cartilage and tendons. It is commonly included in joint supplements and there is evidence supporting its effectiveness. However, most studies show that it works best when combined with chondroitin, either in a single compound or separately (with some experts suggesting consuming the two separately works best).
Marine Magnesium with 72 trace minerals (1000mg) - For some reason, Super Joint Support have decided not to share the full list of minerals included in this blend. They do tell us that it includes the following: calcium, magnesium, manganese, boron, phosphorus, iron, zinc, potassium, copper, and selenium. Some of these do provide joint benefits but it’s hard to assess how beneficial these will be without knowing the doses or exactly what’s in the blend.
Collagen Type II (500mg) - Collagen is found naturally in joints and is a kind of protein. There are several joint supplements that also include collagen for its ability to reduce inflammation. The 500mg dose included in Super Joint Support is a decent amount and is higher than in many other collagen-containing joint supplements.
MSM (250mg) - Another good ingredient for a joint supplement, MSM is an anti-inflammatory and an antioxidant. It plays a role in creating collagen and glucosamine naturally in the body.
Alpha Lipoic Acid (150mg) - While alpha lipoic acid is an anti-inflammatory there is currently no research relating to its benefits for joints. It may improve nerve system functioning and possibly it can slow memory loss but we’re not sure what it has to do with joint health. In fact, the only study we could find concluded that while alpha lipoic acid could work in theory it did not work in practice [2].
White Willow Bark Extract (125mg) - As an anti-inflammatory with similarities to aspirin, white willow bark has been used to reduce and relieve pain associated with various joint-related health issues. Although the recommended daily amount for noticeable pain relief is 240mg, making the dose in Super Joint Support a bit on the low side. In addition, anyone who is on blood thinners or is allergic to aspirin should avoid taking this.
Vitamin K2 (45mcg) - We’re impressed to see the inclusion of vitamin K2, it is relatively uncommon to find it in a joint supplement. It is a preventative vitamin when it comes to joint health and can slow the onset of osteoarthritis.
